A founding member of the "Group of Seven", J.E.H. MacDonald challenged and broadened the scope of Canadian Art.
Like A.Y. Jackson, he started out pursuing a career in commercial art encouraging other artists he worked with like Lismer, Varley and Carmichael who would later become part of that famous Group of Seven painters.
The Tangled Garden is one of his popular images - now hanging in the National Gallery.
